I started this blog because I wanted to learn more about building websites, and I wanted a space to share my thoughts. My name is Townes McKiernan, and I am 22 years old, and from upstate New York. I’m a big fan of the Boston Red Sox, and I spend my time outside of work reading, trying to write, and as of late watching my favorite sports teams lose.

The real deciding factor in starting this was when I realized that I simply wasn’t enjoying writing like I used to. Recently I was at a lecture hosted by an accomplished journalist who gave the advice, “write in your own voice.” May seem kind of simple, but it made me realize that across my high school and four years of undergraduate study I had completely lost my voice in my writing, and really wasn’t enjoying what I was writing because of it.

So, the point of this blog is to challenge myself to write about the things I’m interested in and do it in my own voice. At first, I thought I would try to just auto dictate all these posts with a speech to text software but realized that would not only be annoying in the short term but would end up making this way easier. Essentially, I’ll be writing all these sentences myself, rereading them, and trying to imagine myself saying this stuff out loud. Hopefully it’ll be interesting too.
